Travel, travel, travel, and so little sleep. Flights from Pittsburgh to Atlanta, Atlanta to Rome and Rome to Bari...a blur. But uneventful. Yay. Arrived in Matera shortly after noon on Tuesday, and found a sandwich at Keiv cafe. Very nice for 3 euro. Then spent much of the afternoon wandering on our own around this city of Sassi, which means rock. Everything is built into the hillsides and it has a spectacular prehistoric feel. We will be taking a real tour from a local today and will fill in the details, with pictures. The town is on the edge of a small canyon; very beautiful. Out hotel is also built into the hillside and is very modern and luxurious. We ate a two course dinner at Le dodici de lune, a very nice local restaurant with a great host. I will add one picture now of our hotel taken with my ipad. More to come!
